Jennifer Goodman

Based in her Melbourne studio, Jennifer Goodman creates paintings that explore the relationship between colour, structure and composition. Her practice is deeply informed by geometric abstraction, modernist traditions and colour theory, resulting in bold, visually layered works that reveal new details and connections over time. Each colour within her paintings is individually hand-mixed in the studio, giving the work its distinctive depth, vibrancy and precision.

Goodman’s practice has been recognised through artist residencies including the Turner Galleries Art Angels Artist in Residence Program (2019) and The Australian Tapestry Workshop (2016). She has received several significant awards, including the City of Darebin La Trobe University Acquisitive Art Prize and the Bayside Acquisitive Local Art Prize.

Her work has also been selected as a finalist in numerous major art prizes, including the John Leslie Art Prize (2018, 2022), the Bayside Painting Prize (2015, 2016, 2017, 2025), the Mornington National Works on Paper Prize (2012) and the Fleurieu Art Prize (2011). Goodman’s paintings are held in many important public and private collections across Australia and internationally, including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Artbank, Monash University Museum of Art, McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park, Geelong Art Gallery, Gippsland Art Gallery, La Trobe University Art Museum and the Embassy of Australia in Washington.
